Puff is built to know as little about you as possible. This page lists everything that leaves your Mac, and why.
What the app sends
- A machine hash, to run the trial and licences. Puff combines your Mac's hardware ID with a fixed value built into the app and sends only the SHA-256 hash of that. The hardware ID itself never leaves your Mac, and the hash can't be turned back into it. Our licence server stores the hash with the dates it first and last saw it.
- Your licence key, when you activate one, so it can be matched to the Macs it is used on (two per licence).
- Update checks. Puff periodically fetches a list of available versions. That request carries nothing about you beyond what any web request does; no system profile is sent.
On this website
- No analytics and no cookies of our own. The pages load nothing from anyone else — until you press Buy.
- Buying. Pressing Buy loads Paddle's checkout from paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record: it takes your payment and billing details under its own privacy policy, and we never see your card.
- After buying, the thank-you page sends the purchase's transaction number to our licence server to fetch your key. We store Paddle's customer number with the key, so we can find it again if you lose it; we keep no email address of our own.
What the app never sends
- Fan speeds, temperatures or anything else about your Mac's hardware.
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or anything about how you use Puff.
- Your name, email address, files or location.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Paddle, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record. Paddle processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card. Paddle tells our licence server that a purchase happened, with its transaction and customer numbers — that is how your key is made, and found again if you lose it. Your email address stays with Paddle.
This website
No cookies, no analytics, no fonts or scripts loaded from third parties.
Keeping and deleting
Machine hashes are kept so a trial can't simply be restarted. Write to support@puffmac.app and we'll delete anything we hold that relates to you.
